Shillong Province Blessed with Nine New Priests


Shillong, January 20, 2024 - In a momentous ceremony held at the Shillong Archdiocese, Most Rev. Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh ordained ten new priests into the priesthood. Among the ten, seven were Salesians, and six belonged to the Province of St. John Paul II, Shillong Province. The ordination, which took place on January 20, 2024, marked a significant milestone for Deacons Kambor Sun, Khlainbor Warjri, Sawlus Kharpran, Reuben Lyngdoh, Synshar Kharsyntiew, and Anthony Kharbuki. Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh, the spiritual leader of the Shillong Archdiocese, presided over the ordination ceremony, bestowing the sacred sacrament of priestly ordination upon the newly ordained deacons. The event drew a congregation of faithful, who gathered to witness and celebrate the commitment of these individuals to a life of service in the Catholic Church. Father Richard Majaw, the VG of the Archdiocese, Father Paul O Lyngkot, the Salesian Provincial, parish priests, leaders of institutions, and numerous other priests and religious were also present. During his homily, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh offered guidance and encouragement to the newly ordained priests, stressing the importance of following in the footsteps of Christ. He called upon them to be shepherds to their flocks, providing guidance and care for the spiritual well-being of the community. The Archbishop's homily resonated with a profound message of sacrifice, urging the new priests to be willing and ready to sacrifice their lives for Christ and his Gospel. He emphasized the noble duty of priests to emulate the selfless love and sacrifice demonstrated by Jesus Christ, encouraging them to lead lives of virtue and service. Addressing the congregation, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh requested the faithful to pray for and love their priests, recognizing the tireless work undertaken by priests for the spiritual welfare of the community. He underscored the reciprocal relationship between the clergy and the congregation, fostering a sense of unity and mutual support within the Church. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Church, the newly ordained priests vowed to uphold the principles laid out by Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh. The ceremony concluded with a sense of joy and spiritual fulfillment as the faithful extended their blessings to the newly ordained priests, marking the beginning of their journey in the service of God and the community. In related events, during the month of December, two more priests, Father Shiningstar Dkhar and Father Shemphang Dkhar, were ordained in Ladrymbai Parish of the Jowai Diocese, belonging to the Salesian Congregation. Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh officiated the ceremony in the presence of Rt. Rev. Bp Ferdinand Dkhar of Jowai Diocese. Additionally, on February 4th, Salesian Deacon Kiboklang Tyngkan is set to be ordained a priest at Mawkyndeng Parish by Rt. Rev. Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar.
