KJWA AWARDED SALESIAN PRIEST FATHER BARNES MAWRIE


Shillong 19th August:The research cell of Khasi Jaintia Welfare Association awarded Salesian Father Barnes Mawrie sdb for his contributions to the Khasi culture through his literatures. Together with him, three other prominent writers and authors were also felicitated at Dinam Hall Jaiaw today the 19th August 2023 for their contributions to the Khasi and Jaintia society. Speaking on the occasion, Reverend Doctor Father Barnes Mawrie sdb who has authored over 30 books besides many other scholarly articles published in national and international journals, magazines and papers, lamented over the descent of the Khasi culture. ‘Our People now a days have forgotten the virtue of ‘im tipbriew tipblei’ (knowing God and knowing one’s neighbour) and kamai ia ka hok’ (to earn with honesty), he said. Nonetheless, he is not loosing hope and he wants to inspire others to love and respect the culture. It may be mentioned that the KJWA (Khasi Jaintia Welfare Association) was founded in 1977 and in 2013, the research cell was created in order to encourage scholars to published books and articles on the preservation of the Khasi culture and the Khasi Society.
