Youth Ministry Training for Young Salesians at Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata
Shillong 18 September: The seminar on youth ministry for young Salesians was held on 13th -17th September, 2023 at Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata. A total of 22 young Salesians (20 priests and 2 Salesian brothers) from five Salesian provinces (INN, INS, IND, ING, INC) were the participants for the meeting. Don Bosco Youth Animator of South Asia, Fr. Patrick Lepcha, Youth delegates of Chennai Province, Fr. John Christy, Delhi Province Youth incharge, Fr. Shilanand Kerkatta and Fr. Arvind Khalkho, INC were the animators of the training programme. The training programme began on 13th evening with the short welcoming programme to all the participants and the animators. Fr. Joseph Pauria, the Provincial of Kolkata Province welcomed all the participants during the Holy Eucharist and also gave the key note address on the first day of the programme.
Fr. Christy animated the group in different sessions on educating young people to faith, counseling, volunteerism and the visibility of the Salesian youth movement among the others. Fr. Shilanand highlighted the group on the topics of community experience, preventive system, Salesian spirituality and Salesian educative and pastoral project. On the other hand, Fr. Patrick gave an overview of the young people in today’s Indian Scenario and the need for developing a planning attitude and the oratorian heart in youth ministry. Fr. Arvind, the Social Communication delegate of Kolkata province animated the group on the urgent need of social media for youth ministry and its visual virtues. On 15th September, the group had a privileged to celebrate the Holy Eucharist at the tomb of St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata. The training was concluded by a short tour around the city of Kolkata.
