Shillong SYM celebrates ‘Youth For Peace’ Fest 2023
Shillong 5th December: The SYM Youth Fest 2023 was held from December 1st to 3rd at the campus of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from youths hailing from various Salesian institutions and parishes, including St Anthony’s School, Auxilium Convent, Don Bosco School, Smit, St John Bosco School, Sohra, and Parish communities – Rangblang, Sonapahar & Riangdo, and Laitkroh.
Under the overarching theme of “Youth for Peace,” the fest embraced a holistic approach, offering a diverse range of programs that resonated with the young attendees. From insightful sessions delving into the theme’s significance to a community-driven cleaning initiative, the fest aimed to instil a sense of responsibility and unity among the participants.
The three-day programme begun daily with the Holy Mass. It included relevant sessions on the theme, a stress management session facilitated by a counselling psychologist, spiritual sessions filled with uplifting songs and praise, captivating dance performances, cultural and talent shows, leadership training sessions and animation on the ideals of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM). The coordination of these activities was skillfully executed by Father Anthony Kharkongor, Youth Delegate, INS, and Father Primus Syiem, Youth Director, INS.
The event was also facilitated by the Salesian Youth Movement of Shillong Region and the SYM unit of St. Anthony’s School. Adding an extra layer of vibrancy to the fest, SYM Nongstoiñ brought their wonderful dance numbers and songs of praise, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
Above all, the fest’s overarching objective was to unite youths from Salesian schools and parishes, serving as a platform for character building and providing valuable guidance as they navigate the challenges of youth. The SYM Youth Fest 2023 successfully achieved these goals, creating an environment where the youth could learn, connect, and leave inspired for a brighter future.
