Shillong 10th July 2023: An ethnic clash erupted on 3 May 2023 in the state of Manipur between the Meitei people, a majority that lives in the Imphal Valley, and the tribal community from the surrounding hills, including the Kuki and Zo peoples. Since then the clash is worsen and many people have been killed in the violence, and many more are left wounded, displaced and in refugee camps. In solidarity for those affected by this ethnic clash, various church groups and organizations prayed and begged that peace might be restored. In this connection, Salesians of the Shillong Province under the leadership of Father Barnes Mawrie and Father Michael Makri organized a prayer concert on 9th July 2023 to pray for peace in Manipur. The concert was held at the Father Sngi Memorial Hall in Sacred Heart Theological College Mawlai. Mr Charles Pynrope MLA from Nongthymmai was the Chief Guest and Father Paul O Lyngkot the Provincial was Guest of honour. Father Sunil Barla and Rev. Dr Kharkongor were speakers for the Peace Prayer Concert. As many as one thousand participants from the Salesian Family Members took part in the Concert which was air LIVE by Don Bosco Media Network on YouTube, Local Cable Network and OTT. The concert was in deed a moment of prayer, Music and Dance to implore the blessing of God that peace might be restored in Manipur.
