MARY HELP OF CHRISTIAN QUASI PARISH & DON BOSCO CENTRE, PATHARKANDI INAUGURATED
Shillong 28th January 2025: January 26, 2025, marked a historic milestone for the Salesian Congregation as the Salesian Province of Shillong inaugurated the MARY HELP OF CHRISTIANS QUASI-PARISH and the DON BOSCO CENTRE in Patharkandi, Sribhumi (Karimganj) District, Assam. This establishment represents the first parish and second Salesian presence in the Barak Valley region.
The celebration commenced with a solemn Mass at 10:30 a.m., presided over by Most Rev. Bishop Stephen Rotluanga CSC, Bishop of Aizawl Diocese. The Mass was concelebrated by Most Rev. Bishop Joachim Walder, Auxiliary Bishop of Aizawl Diocese, Fr. John Zosiama SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Shillong, Fr. Genesius Wanñiang SDB, Economer of the Salesian Province of Shillong, and other priests from the Barak Valley region parishes.
During the Mass, the Decree of Bishop Stephen Rotluanga CSC was read, declaring the establishment of the new Quasi-Parish of Mary Help of Christians. Fr. Albastar Kharkongor SDB was appointed and installed as the first parish priest.
A cultural program followed the Holy Eucharist, featuring a diverse range of performances, songs, music, and cultural dances by children and youth from the new parish and students from Boscotech, Silchar, and Don Bosco School Silchar. The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal for all attendees.
Over 2,000 people gathered to mark this momentous occasion, celebrating the Salesian Congregation's expanded presence in the Barak Valley region.
