On January 12, 2025, Bishramganj Parish witnessed a day of grace, joy, and unity as the community came together for a remarkable Parish Sobha. The occasion featured a series of significant events: a warm welcome for Rev. Fr. Jitendis, the newly ordained priest; a heartfelt farewell for Rev. Fr. Albaster, who had faithfully served the parish for five years; the First Holy Communion of Catholic children from various villages; and the Sacrament of Confirmation for youth and elderly parishioners.
The day’s events commenced with the arrival of Rt. Rev. Lumen Monteiro CSC, Bishop of Agartala. The Bishop was greeted warmly at the parish gate and escorted to the presbytery by a procession of priests, religious, and faithful, setting the tone for the day’s celebrations.
The highlight of the day was the Solemn Holy Eucharist, which began at 11:00 AM. Presided over by Bishop Monteiro and concelebrated by Salesian priests from neighboring communities, the Mass was a vibrant and spiritually uplifting celebration. The congregation's active participation and the choir's melodious singing enriched the liturgy, creating an atmosphere of reverence and joy.
Rev. Fr. Remol Marak extended a heartfelt welcome to the Bishop, clergy, religious, and faithful at the start of the Mass. During his homily, Bishop Monteiro expressed gratitude to the parish community for their dedication and hospitality, emphasizing the significance of faith, unity, and service in the life of the Church.
The Mass also included the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to youth and elderly parishioners, a solemn moment signifying their strengthened commitment to the faith. Additionally, Catholic children from various villages received their First Holy Communion, marking an important milestone in their spiritual journey.
After the Eucharistic celebration, a felicitation programme was held in the parish hall. Guests were welcomed with the Tripuri traditional Risa, a gesture symbolizing the community's rich cultural heritage. The hall was filled with religious sisters, brothers, pre-novices, and hundreds of parishioners who came together to honor the day’s events.
The programme featured joyful singing and inspiring speeches by Bishop Lumen, Fr. Albaster, and Fr. Jitendis, adding vibrancy to the gathering. The celebration also included the commemoration of Bishop Monteiro’s golden jubilee of religious profession, a significant milestone marked with the cutting of three cakes amidst great enthusiasm and joy.
The farewell for Rev. Fr. Albaster was a poignant moment, with parishioners expressing their deep gratitude for his unwavering service and dedication over the past five years. Gifts were presented to him as tokens of appreciation and love.
Simultaneously, the parish extended a warm welcome to Rev. Fr. Jitendis. Parish Secretary Mr. Henry Debbarma formally introduced him and assured him of the community’s prayers and support as he began his pastoral ministry.
The day concluded with a fellowship lunch, served to all attendees, reflecting the spirit of hospitality, unity, and joy that characterized the entire event.
