24th November 2024, Kongthong: On 24th November 2024, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church Kongthong was filled with joy and gratitude as the faithful gathered to witness the blessing of the new church. St. Matthew’s Church Kongthong was under Mary Queen of Peace Laitkroh Parish. The occasion was made even more significant as Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nongkseh SDB (Salesian of Don Bosco) celebrated his birthday, and presiding over the Holy Eucharist. The Holy Eucharist was attended by eleven priests, who joined Fr. Lawrence in leading the congregation in prayer and worship. Fr. Genesius Wanniang, the Provincial Economer of Salesian Province of Shillong, blessed the church which added to the sense of occasion and reverence. One of the highlights of the celebration was the First Holy Communion of the nine children who received the sacrament for the first time. This milestone marked an important step in their faith journey, and the congregation rejoiced with them. The celebration was attended by a diverse group of faithful, including religious nuns, and brothers. The sense of community and unity was palpable, as everyone came together to worship, pray, and celebrates.
