The celebration commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, led by students, parents, and community members.
The March Past began shortly after, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Simon Felix Syiem. Seven contingents — three boys’ and four girls’ — proudly marched in front of the Officer-in-Charge, representing their respective schools in the interschool March Past and Patriotic Act competitions.
In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized the values of unity and cooperation in building a stronger nation, encouraging students to understand their role as the backbone of India’s future.
Following this, four schools took part in the Patriotic Act competition, presenting captivating performances that celebrated India’s heritage, struggles, and patriotic spirit.
A friendly football match between the Executive Committee of the Mawpdang Sports Club and the Executive Committee of Mawpdang Village was also held, ending in a thrilling penalty shootout victory for the Sports Club.
After lunch, a special musical performance by Miss Lakyntiew Syiem and her group captivated the audience, featuring a touching tribute to Meghalaya and the Khasi community.
At 1:00 p.m., the highlight of the day — the Final Match of the 1st Interschool Football Tournament — was played between Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Smit and St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong. In a well-fought match, St. Anthony’s HSS emerged victorious with a 2–0 win.
Local MLA, Shri Heavingstone Kharpran, graced the final match and delivered an inspiring speech on the role of sports, teamwork, and student-teacher collaboration in education. He congratulated the organisers for hosting a vibrant and impactful event.
