SAVIO JUNIORATE SHINES BRIGHT, WINS BEST MARCHING BAND ON INDEPENDENCE DAY


15th August 2025, Shillong: Meghalaya marked its 79th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic spirit at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Polo Ground) in Shillong. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma unfurled the national flag and took the salute, honoring the state's rich cultural heritage and diversity. The celebration featured a spectacular marching parade with 35 contingents, including personnel from the BSF, CRPF, and students from 32 schools. Four marching bands performed with discipline and flair, with Savio Juniorate, representing Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School Mawlai, securing the first prize for their exceptional performance.

    Following the Chief Minister’s address, vibrant cultural performances showcased the traditions and artistic excellence of Meghalaya. The Auxilium NCC band was awarded first prize for their captivating cultural display.

    In his speech, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma highlighted Meghalaya’s achievements over the past few years, including the promotion of local culture and the advancement of women-led initiatives. He praised the success of the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program, which has supported over 7,750 local artists.

    The Chief Minister also emphasized progress in women’s empowerment, noting a significant increase in Self-Help Groups across the state. Additionally, around 60,000 students have benefited from the CM Impact program.

    The day concluded with a deep sense of pride and gratitude among citizens, who returned home with renewed appreciation for the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. Heartfelt thanks were offered to God Almighty for His guidance and blessings.
