A GOLDEN LEGACY CELEBRATED: KHLIEHRIAT HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL CONCLUDES GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Shillong 19th December 2024: The serene town of Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills came alive with jubilant celebrations as Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, a prestigious Salesian institution, marked the grand finale of its Golden Jubilee on December 19, 2024. Under the theme “A Golden Pass. A Shining Future,” the event witnessed a spectacular amalgamation of gratitude, cultural vibrancy, and aspirations for the future. The day commenced with a solemn Holy Mass at 10:00 a.m., presided over by Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar of the Jowai Diocese. The Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Jeevan Lakra, Vice Provincial of the Shillong Province, and Fr. Ioannis War Pakma, Rector and Parish Priest of Khliehriat and over 25 priests, brought together a congregation of past and present students, parents, educators, and clergy. Reflecting on the school’s remarkable journey, Bishop Dkhar expressed profound gratitude to God for the blessings bestowed upon the institution. He lauded the missionaries who pioneered the school’s establishment, emphasizing the transformative role of education and healthcare introduced by the missionaries in shaping society. “Education is the foundation of progress,” the Bishop remarked in his homily, urging students and staff to continue striving for excellence. The choir’s angelic voices enhanced the spiritual ambiance, making the Mass a heartwarming tribute to the school’s illustrious history. Following the Mass, the school grounds became the stage for a cultural program, solemnized by the Chief Guest, Shri Kyrmen Shylla, MLA and Cabinet Minister. Shri Shylla, an alumnus of the school, expressed his pride and gratitude for being part of the institution’s journey. Representing the Government of Meghalaya, he announced the provision of a school bus as a Golden Jubilee gift, a gesture met with resounding applause. In his welcome address, Rev. Bro. Solomon Swer, the school’s Principal, highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing generations of students who embody the values of discipline, dedication, and service.
