Shillong Province Hosts Enriching Two-Day Meeting for Practical Training Brothers

Shillong, 26th May 2026: The Salesian Province of Shillong organised a two-day Practical Training Meeting for all the brothers undergoing their Practical Training within the Province. The programme was held on the 25th and 26th of May 2026 at Matthias Institute, Provincial House. The sole purpose of the meeting was to help the brothers perform well in their respective missions through various enriching sessions, interactions, and sharing experiences.

The programme officially commenced on 25th May 2026 with the first session conducted by Fr. Provincial at 8:45 a.m. In his conference, he briefly elaborated on the different activities and developments taking place within the province. He also exhorted the brothers to remain dedicated, responsible, and faithful in carrying out their mission and apostolate entrusted to them.  After a short break, the second session was animated by Fr. Arul Kumar at 10:15 a.m. Through his valuable insights and guidance, he encouraged the brothers to grow in commitment, discipline, and personal maturity while serving in their respective communities and institutions. Following lunch at 12:30 p.m., the participants gathered once again at 2:15 p.m. for a Sharing Session led by Fr. Vice Provincial. The Brothers actively shared their experiences, challenges, joys, and learnings from their apostolic assignments. The session provided an opportunity for mutual learning and encouragement among the brothers. After tea at 4:00 p.m., Session Three was conducted by Fr. George Shining and Cl. Arkidon Derek at 5:00 p.m. The session focused on mental health and emotions, helping the brothers to reflect on their own behaviours and to mend their way of dealing with the young people entrusted to their care. The day concluded with Evening Prayer, dinner, Rosary, and Good Night Talk.

The second day, 26th May 2026, began early with rising at 6:00 a.m., followed by Meditation, Morning Prayer, and the Holy Eucharist at 6:30 a.m. After the Mass they had a photo session and was immediately followed by breakfast. Then at 8:45 a.m. Cl. Arkidon Derek and Fr. George Shining resumed their sessions up to 12:30 p.m. The Brothers attentively participated and benefited greatly from the various inputs and reflections shared during the sessions. At 1:30 p.m. there was an evaluation, in which the participants shared their feedback, appreciation, and suggestions regarding the programme. At 3:00 p.m., the brothers proceeded to a nearby football ground where they spent time together through a friendly football match and recreational activities. The game became a joyful moment of fraternity, helping them to cherish their togetherness and strengthen their bonds of friendship and brotherhood. The recreation continued until 5:30 p.m., after which the brothers departed for their respective communities and mission centres.

There were 21 Practical Training Brothers present during the meeting, while a number of others were unable to participate due to various unavoidable circumstances. The programme proceeded smoothly and successfully. All the participants appreciated the meaningful sessions, joyful fraternity, and the opportunity to come together as one Salesian family. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude and contentment to the core organising team under the leadership of Fr. Vice Provincial for successfully conducting the meeting.
