INSPIRED BY NATURE, FOR CLIMATE, FOR OUR FUTURE:WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 AT DBTS SHILLONG

Shillong, 5 June 2026: Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), Shillong, in collaboration with Seng Kynthei, Laitumkhrah, observed World Environment Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and a renewed commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable living. The celebration was centered on the theme “Inspired by Nature, for Climate, for Our Future.”

The programme commenced in the AV Hall with an opening prayer led by Fr. Shining, Principal of DBTS. Invoking God’s blessings upon the gathering and the environment, the prayer set a reflective and meaningful tone for the celebration.

Following the prayer, Fr. Shining extended a warm welcome to all the guests, staff members, and students present. In his keynote address, he reflected on the significance of the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Inspired by Nature, for Climate, for Our Future,” emphasizing that nature itself provides solutions to many environmental challenges. He encouraged everyone to learn from nature, adopt sustainable lifestyles, and become responsible stewards of creation for the well-being of future generations.

The main talk of the day was delivered by the President of Seng Kynthei, Laitumkhrah, who stressed that preserving and protecting Mother Earth is not solely the responsibility of governments, organizations, or institutions. Rather, it is the duty of every individual to contribute actively towards environmental sustainability through responsible choices and actions in daily life. He reminded the participants that meaningful change begins with personal commitment and collective effort.

Another inspiring address was delivered by the Secretary of Seng Kynthei on the theme “Our Planet, Our Responsibility, Our Future.” The speaker highlighted the interconnectedness between human actions and the health of the planet, urging participants to take ownership of environmental issues and work together to ensure a cleaner, greener, and healthier future for generations to come.

The formal programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Br. Sniawshngain Papang, Vice Principal of DBTS. He expressed gratitude to the resource persons from Seng Kynthei, the organizers, staff, and students for their active participation and support in making the event meaningful and successful.

Following the indoor programme, all participants proceeded outdoors for a tree and flower plantation drive within the school premises. Students, staff, and guests enthusiastically planted saplings and flowering plants as a symbolic and practical contribution towards environmental protection. The activity reflected the spirit of the day’s theme by translating awareness into action and demonstrating a shared commitment to climate responsibility and environmental stewardship.

Furthermore, Seng Kynthei, Laitumkhrah generously distributed saplings to all participants, encouraging them to plant and nurture them at their homes, compounds, or nearby areas. This thoughtful initiative symbolized a shared commitment to protecting the environment and caring for Mother Earth. Each sapling served as a living reminder of the responsibility entrusted to every individual to contribute towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future. Through this gesture, the message of the day— “Inspired by Nature, for Climate, for Our Future”—was carried beyond the school campus into homes and communities.
