Nongtluh, 14 August 2026: On 14 August 2026, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Umden, organized a one-day school competition on the school campus following the morning assembly. The programme began at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at 12:00 noon.
The competitions were organized by the teachers under the leadership of Fr. Hampyrwa Tyngkan, SDB, Principal of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Umden. The main objective of the programme was to encourage the students to develop their talents, creativity, confidence, communication skills, and team spirit.
Various competitions were organized, including Flower Arrangement, Fruit Salad Making, Debate, Poem Recitation, and Spelling Bee. Each competition provided the students with an opportunity to showcase their individual talents and abilities.
The Flower Arrangement and Fruit Salad Making competitions helped the students develop their creativity, cooperation, and practical skills. The Poem Recitation competition encouraged students to improve their pronunciation, expression, confidence, and spoken English. The Spelling Bee helped strengthen their vocabulary and language skills.
One of the highlights of the programme was the Debate Competition, which was conducted on the topic, “Social Media: A Boon or a Bane.” The competition gave the students an opportunity to express their ideas and opinions on an important issue affecting young people today. It also encouraged them to think critically, present their arguments clearly, listen to others, and develop their public-speaking skills.
Through these competitions, the students were encouraged not only to display their talents but also to develop important values such as cooperation, discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and mutual respect. The activities also helped them to grow in confidence and to recognize the importance of nurturing the talents and skills they possess.
The competitions were conducted successfully and concluded at 12:00 noon. The students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the various activities. The programme provided a meaningful and enjoyable experience for both the students and teachers.
Independence Day Celebration
The school also took part in the Independence Day celebration with a short flag-hoisting ceremony. The celebration was marked by a motivational address delivered by Babu Ellias L. Mallai.
In his motivational talk, he emphasized the importance of being a responsible and true citizen of the country, as well as a good Christian in the Church and in society. He encouraged the students to respect their responsibilities, live with discipline, and contribute positively to the Church, society, and the nation.
The school competitions and Independence Day celebration provided the students with valuable opportunities to develop their talents and character. The activities reminded them that their talents and skills should be nurtured and used for the good of others and the development of society.
The entire programme was a meaningful and enjoyable experience for the students and teachers, combining learning, creativity, teamwork, patriotism, and Christian values.
