Shillong, 14 October 2026: Nongpoh Parish celebrated its second Children’s Catechism Day on 11 October, bringing together approximately 1,600 children for a day of learning, prayer, fellowship and cultural activities. Inspired by the example of St. Carlo Acutis, the celebration provided an opportunity for the children to strengthen their spiritual lives and grow in Christian values.
The programme began at 9.00 a.m. with an animation session conducted by Sr. Roibok Suchiang, FMA, from Saiden Convent. Through an engaging talk and a video presentation on the lives of the saints, she encouraged the children to practise kindness, love, honesty and service in their daily lives. The example of St. Carlo Acutis, particularly his devotion to the Eucharist and his creative use of digital technology to share the Gospel, offered the young participants an inspiring model to follow.
The postulants added colour and enthusiasm to the celebration through songs and dances, creating a joyful atmosphere and welcoming the children in a spirit of friendship and family.
At 10.30 a.m., Fr. Peter Syiemlieh, SDB, celebrated the Holy Eucharist, reminding the children of the importance of keeping Jesus at the centre of their lives. The celebration encouraged them to put Christian teachings into practice in their families, schools and communities. The Holy Mass was followed by lunch, providing an opportunity for fellowship and sharing.
The afternoon programme began at 1.30 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and Eucharistic Adoration, giving the children time for prayer and reflection. The spiritual activities were followed by cultural programmes that showcased their talents, creativity and enthusiasm.
The celebration reflected the Salesian spirit of St. John Bosco, who believed that young people flourish in an atmosphere of joy, loving-kindness, guidance and a sense of belonging. Through this gathering, Nongpoh Parish reaffirmed its commitment to the holistic development of children, helping them grow in character, responsibility and compassion.
With the participation of 1,600 children, the second Children’s Catechism Day was a joyful expression of community and the Church’s care for the younger generation. Inspired by St. Carlo Acutis, the children were encouraged to follow Jesus through their everyday actions and use their gifts to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
