Shillong 8th April: The Don Bosco Youth Centre in collaboration with Ri Bhoi Catholic Youth Shillong Unit and the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society today organized the Voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Don Bosco Youth Centre at Laitumkhrah, Shillong. The purpose of the Blood Donation Camp was to remind the youth during this Lenten season about the suffering and death of Lord Jesus Christ who shed His blood for the salvation of mankind, the Youth felt the need to shed a little drop of their blood for the life of someone’s. A sizeable number of young people turned to donate their blood but only 27 young men were found fit to donate their blood. Speaking to Don Bosco Media Network, Dr. Dr. Ibanylla Nongkynrih of Regional Blood Bank of Pasteur Institute, Lawmali, Shillong said ‘It is a very great gesture by the Youth who willingly and voluntarily donated their blood to help us in the Blood Bank as there are shortage of blood’. The president of the Ri Bhoi Catholic Youth Shillong Unit Mr Bronus Klein also said that this act of voluntarily giving blood is an answer to the call of Holy Mother Church to give alms – there is no precious almsgiving than giving blood to save lives.
