Shillong, August 23, 2026: For the first time, a Charismatic Retreat was organised in the Nongkharai sub-district of Nongpoh Parish, drawing a large number of faithful from the sub-district for a day of prayer, reflection and spiritual renewal.
The retreat was conducted by Rev. Fr. Jude ZZ, Director of the Umroi Retreat Centre, along with his team. The programme focused on deepening the participants’ faith, strengthening their relationship with God and encouraging them to renew their Christian commitment.
A large number of faithful actively participated in the retreat despite the inclement weather and heavy rainfall that affected the programme. Owing to the intensity of the rain, the retreat had to be concluded earlier than the scheduled time.
However, the adverse weather conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants. Many expressed their desire to continue with the retreat and complete the programme in the usual manner, reflecting their eagerness for spiritual nourishment and their commitment to the faith.
The maiden retreat in Nongkharai was widely welcomed by the faithful, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such a spiritual gathering within their own sub-district. The initiative also highlighted the growing desire among the faithful for opportunities for prayer, spiritual formation and community fellowship.
The organisers expressed hope that such retreats and other faith-based programmes would continue to be organised in the sub-district in the future, providing the faithful with regular opportunities for spiritual renewal and strengthening their Christian life.
