Youth Leadership Training Programme Launched at Don Bosco Youth Centre

Shillong 5th October 2026: Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC), Laitumkhrah, Shillong, in collaboration with the Youth Commission of the St. John Paul II, Shillong Province, organised the first module of a six-module Youth Leadership Formation Programme from Friday 2nd October to Sunday 4th October 2026. The three-day training brought together young people aged 17–30 for a journey of formation, friendship and service.

Held under the theme “Lead with Purpose, Serve with Responsibility,” the programme aimed to empower young people to become responsible, value-based and service-oriented leaders. The initiative reflects the Salesian commitment to accompanying young people and helping them discover their potential to become protagonists in society and the Church.

The first module focused on understanding oneself as a leader, communication and people skills, and leading through action. Participants engaged in sessions on self-awareness, personal values, vision and purpose, team building, effective communication, emotional intelligence, conflict management, social responsibility, problem-solving and project planning. Group activities, games, prayer, reflection and practical exercises made the programme highly participatory and experiential.

The sessions were facilitated by Fr. Ritonbor Kharkongor, Youth Delegate; Fr. Kenny Nongrum; Br. Quirinus War; Fr. Michael Makri; Rosa Scharding; and Carmen Engelhardt, who contributed their experience and expertise to the formation process.

As the first of six leadership formation modules, the programme lays the foundation for a sustained journey of accompanying and forming young leaders. Participants were encouraged to translate their learning into concrete commitments and leadership action plans.

The initiative seeks to nurture young people who can lead with purpose, serve with responsibility and make a positive difference, inspired by the spirit and educational vision of Don Bosco.
