Shillong – September 1: The Missionary Formation Course 2026 organised by the Salesians of Don Bosco, South Asia Region was officially inaugurated today, 1st September 2026, at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Mawlai, Shillong. This yearly venture is organised for the members of the Salesian Family for the purpose of rejuvenating their missionary fervour.
The programme began with a short Prayer Service led by Fr. Sateesh Xavier of Chennai Province, placing the Course under the guidance of God. It was followed by the lighting of the lamp by Fr. John Zosiama, the Provincial, together with Fr. Jeevan Lakra, the Vice Provincial, and the fathers and sisters representing the East, West, South and North of India.
Warmly welcoming all the participants, Fr. Jeevan Lakra, the Vice Provincial and Rector, reflected on the theme: Da mihi anima cetera tolle. He also stressed on missionaries being the hands, the feet and the heart of Christ. He added that though the participants come from different background, cultures and languages, yet they share one identity and one mission: the Salesian mission entrusted to them by the Lord Jesus.
Fr. John Zosiama, the Provincial, in his message, highlighted the significance of the participants coming to a Christian setting, particularly the North-Eastern states of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, where Christianity has a strong presence. He expressed his hope and prayer that this experience would awaken and strengthen in the participants a deeper enthusiasm for missionary life and service.
Speaking on the distinctiveness of Salesian missionary style, Fr. Genesius Wanniang, the Economer, emphasized the speciality and uniqueness of being missionaries rooted in the Salesian Charism. The Salesian spirit, he noted, gives a distinctive character to the missionary approach and presence among people.
Finally, Br. Hadrian Rymbai, the Administrator, oriented the participants regarding the practical arrangements and logistics of the Provincial House. He explained the various requirements for their stay and assured them of his availability whenever assistance is needed.
Fr. Joseph Palamthattel (Sunny), the convener, briefed the participants about the proceedings of the course. With prayer, fellowship and a renewed sense of purpose, the Missionary Formation Course 2026 has with great enthusiasm.
