TEACHERS’ ANIMATION PROGRAM at Don Bosco School, Lawngtlai

Shillong 31st July 2026: Don Bosco School, Lawngtlai organized a Two-day Teachers’ Animation Program from 29th to 30th July 2026 for the renewal and enrichment of the teaching staff. The program was animated by Rev. Fr. George Maliekal and Rev. Fr. Arul Kumar Sebastian from Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong.

Prior to the commencement of the animation program, a short Felicitation program was organized on 28th July in the school hall to welcome the resource persons. Rev. Fr. Nelson Joseph introduced and welcomed the resource persons on behalf of the staff and students. The school expressed sincere gratitude to the fathers for making the journey to Lawngtlai despite the constant rain and bad road conditions in Mizoram. To welcome them, the students presented an Alleluia chorus, a cultural dance, and a few other items. Rev. Fr. George Maliekal then addressed the staff and students in the school auditorium. He shared words of encouragement and recalled his connection with Mizoram.

The main animation sessions were held on 29th and 30th July. On 29th July, Rev. Fr. George Maliekal animated the teachers on the topic “How to be an Effective Teacher” along with other related themes. He shared many practical insights based on his vast experience in education and administration, with special emphasis on teacher-student relationships, classroom management, and dedication to the teaching vocation. In the afternoon, he dealt with the National Education Policy 2020. He explained its key features, the focus on competency-based learning and holistic progress cards, and the role of teachers in implementing the policy in school.

On 30th July, Rev. Fr. Arul Kumar Sebastian, Professor of Canon Law at Sacred Heart Theological College, animated the teachers. This was his maiden visit to Mizoram and he expressed appreciation for the warm welcome he received. Fr. Arul spoke on the Salesian Preventive System and Salesian Pedagogy, focusing on “How to be an Effective Teacher in a Salesian School.” He highlighted Don Bosco’s method of Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness, and how it can be applied in today’s classrooms. The session included group activities and sharing, where teachers reflected on practical ways to live the Preventive System in their teaching and in the formation of students.

Overall, the animation program was effective and enriching. The sessions were practical, motivating, and helped the teachers to align their work more closely with the vision of Don Bosco and the goals of NEP 2020. The school management, staff, and students extend heartfelt thanks to Rev. Fr. George Maliekal and Rev. Fr. Arul Kumar Sebastian for their time, wisdom, and service.
