SHILLONG SALESIANS REMEMBER DECEASED CONFRERES

Shillong, 3 November 2025: In a spirit of solemn remembrance and faith, the Salesians of Don Bosco, St. John Paul II, Shillong Province gathered at the Laitumkhrah Cemetery to honour and commend the departed Salesian religious who served faithfully in the region. The commemoration began with the recitation of the Rosary and was followed by a concelebrated Holy Mass, presided over by Fr. John Zosiama SDB, Provincial of Shillong, with Fr. Jeevan Kishore Lakra SDB (Vice-Provincial), Fr. Genesius Wanniang SDB (Economer), and numerous Fathers, Brothers and Aspirants in attendance.

In his homily, Fr. Zosiama reflected on the Gospel call to eternal life, reminding the faithful that “our friends in Christ continue their journey toward the fullness of God’s presence, and we honour their witness of service.” He expressed deep gratitude to the Missionary Salesians who dedicated themselves to parish ministry, youth education, and training-centres, embodying the charism of St. John Bosco. He urged those in attendance to be grateful for the contributions made by the deceased confreres. Secondly, the Provincial exhort all to live their lives well, like the deceased confreres who had lived their life well and meaningfully in the footsteps of Don Bosco.

Following the Eucharist, the Provincial and the Vice Provincial blessed the graves of the deceased Salesians. This remembrance affirms the province’s commitment to the Salesian vision: forming good Christians and upright citizens, ever-mindful that life on earth is but a pilgrimage toward God.
