Shillong, 6th December 2025: The Cyber Club of the Department of Computer Science, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, conducted its annual outreach programme “Bridging the Digital Divide” at Fatima UP School, Umkon, Ri-Bhoi, from 5–9 December 2025. The initiative, now in its third year at Umkon, aimed to promote digital awareness and strengthen foundational learning among rural schoolchildren.
More than 45 students from Classes 6, 7, and 8 participated in the week-long sessions. A team of 12 final-year BSc Computer Science students—comprising nine boys and three girls—facilitated the programme. They provided hands-on training in basic computer skills and guided students through introductory digital literacy activities.
In addition to computer awareness sessions, the volunteers offered free tuition in Mathematics and Science, providing academic support tailored to each class and enhancing the overall learning environment of the school.
As part of the social outreach component of the programme, the Cyber Club members also distributed usable clothes collected from donors, extending support and encouragement to children and families in the village.
The programme marked a meaningful start to the week-long initiative, reinforcing St. Anthony’s College’s commitment to digital inclusion, community engagement, and service to marginalized rural communities.
