Talent, Gratitude and Brotherhood Mark Rector’s Birthday Celebration at Don Bosco Hostel, Shillong

Shillong, 6th September 2026:  The Higher Secondary Boys’ Hostellers of Don Bosco Hostel, Shillong, organised a joyful Talent Show and Birthday Celebration on 6th September 2026 to showcase the talents of the young residents and to celebrate the birthday of the Rector in a spirit of gratitude, fellowship and joy.

The programme began with a prayer, followed by the Welcome Speech by Fr. Felix Dkhar, who welcomed everyone and set the tone for the celebration. The evening then unfolded with a series of vibrant performances by the hostellers. Jonathan and Co. presented a song, followed by a dance by Synrop and Co., while Meivei and Co. entertained the gathering with a group song. The Reading of the Birthday Address was then presented as a special tribute to the Rector.

The Technical Team added energy to the programme with a lively Phawer performance, followed by a traditional song by Daeli and Dathrang. Steven presented a musical performance, showcasing the diverse talents and creativity of the hostellers. The programme continued with an inspiring speech by the Rector, followed by a melodious performance by the College Choir.

One of the most memorable moments of the celebration came just before the Vote of Thanks, when a blind and differently abled hosteller presented a remarkable beatbox performance. Despite his visual impairment, his extraordinary sense of rhythm and impressive vocal sounds amazed and inspired everyone present. His performance became a powerful reminder that talent knows no limitations and that determination can turn challenges into strengths.

The evening continued with Philomon and Co., who concluded the talent show with another energetic hit song, leaving the audience in a cheerful and celebratory mood. The programme then concluded with the Vote of Thanks, expressing appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the celebration.

The formal programme was followed by the cake-cutting ceremony to mark the birthday of the Rector, after which all gathered together for a birthday dinner and fellowship.

The celebration was a memorable occasion that combined talent, gratitude, inclusiveness, celebration and brotherhood. It provided the Higher Secondary Boys with an opportunity not only to showcase their abilities but also to come together as one hostel family in honour of their Rector.
