Honouring 31 Years of Dedicated Service: Farewell to Sir Anand Gurung

Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), Shillong, bid a heartfelt farewell to Sir Anand Gurung, the senior Electronics Instructor, on 29 June 2026, marking the conclusion of an extraordinary journey of 31 years of dedicated service to the institution. Having joined DBTS in 1995, Sir Anand devoted his career to shaping the lives of countless young people through his commitment to technical education, discipline, and the Salesian spirit.

The farewell programme was attended by the DBTS community, including the Rector, Principal, Brothers, staff members, and students, who gathered to express their gratitude and appreciation for Sir Anand’s invaluable contribution to the institution.

The programme commenced with a Bible Reading by Evanjalene, followed by the opening prayer led by Br. Sniawshngain, Vice Principal. Fr. Shining Dkhar, Principal, delivered the welcome address, warmly acknowledging Sir Anand’s unwavering dedication, professionalism, and significant role in the growth of the Electronics Department and the institution over the past three decades.

The celebration was enriched with a variety of cultural performances presented by different departments. The Carpentry Department, Electrical Department, MMV Department, Beautician Department, and Stenography Department offered heartfelt songs and a dance performance, making the occasion memorable and joyful. Touching speeches were delivered by Wanbor Jyrwa on behalf of the students, Ms. Eva representing the teaching staff, and Fr. Sagi Stephen, Rector, who paid tribute to Sir Anand’s years of faithful service, humility, and dedication to the Salesian mission of educating young people.

The highlight of the programme was Sir Anand Gurung’s farewell address, during which he expressed his sincere gratitude to the Salesian community, his colleagues, and generations of students for their support, friendship, and shared experiences throughout his career. He encouraged the students to remain disciplined, hardworking, and committed to excellence in both their studies and future professions.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Sir Mario, who acknowledged everyone who contributed to the success of the celebration. The gathering ended with heartfelt appreciation, warm wishes, and prayers for Sir Anand as he embarks on a new chapter of life after more than three decades of selfless and dedicated service to Don Bosco Technical School.

The retirement celebration was not merely a farewell but a fitting tribute to a teacher whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations. His commitment, kindness, and unwavering dedication have left an enduring mark on the DBTS family, and he will always remain a cherished member of the Don Bosco community.
