150 YEARS OF MISSIONARY SPIRIT: CELEBRATING SALESIAN MISSION DAY AT DBTS SHILLONG

Shillong, 11th November 2025: The Salesian Mission Day celebration at DBTS Shillong Community on 11th November 2025 marked the 150th anniversary of the first Salesian missionary expedition led by Don Bosco. The day began with a solemn morning Mass attended by members of the community, setting a reverent tone for the remembrance of this milestone event.

In the evening, the entire community gathered to celebrate with a special Rosary service dedicated to praying for missionaries worldwide, expressing solidarity and spiritual support for Salesian missions everywhere. This was followed by a community animation session led by Fr. Felix Dkhar, the Vice Rector, along with the fathers and brothers, to foster unity and mission awareness.

The celebration opened with the hymn “We Are One in the Spirit,” symbolizing unity with all Salesian missionaries globally. This was followed by a brief introduction, scripture readings from Matthew emphasizing the call to “Go and baptize,” and a reflection on the missionary journey to Patagonia, Argentina.

Two video clips enhanced the reflection: one on the Mission Day itself titled “Give Thanks, Rethink, Relaunch,” echoing the dream of Don Bosco in sending forth missionaries; and another named “A Legacy of Grace,” portraying the struggles and perseverance of missionaries in South Sudan.

Intercessory prayers were offered for all missionaries around the world. The event concluded with final blessings from Fr. Felix Dkhar and a hymn dedicated to Don Bosco, reinforcing the community’s missionary zeal and gratitude for their heritage.

This meaningful celebration combined liturgy, prayer, reflection, multimedia, and community interaction to honor 150 years of Salesian missionary spirit and to inspire renewed commitment to Don Bosco’s vision.
