3rd December 2023: DBTS Hostel, Shillong: In an exhilarating break from the routine, a group of hostel boys from DBTS Hostel in Shillong decided to embrace the great outdoors through a camping adventure over the weekend. The enthusiastic group, consisting of 60 students, traded the confines of their hostel rooms for the serenity of nature in a bid to create lasting memories and foster camaraderie. The camping expedition kicked off on 1st of December 2023 as the boys gathered in high spirits, equipped with tents, sleeping bags, and a sense of adventure. The chosen camping site, located in the picturesque Mawthei in Ri Bhoi District, promised breathtaking views and an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. As the team reached the camp site late in the evening of the first day they were able to pitch their tent and had supper at 10 pm night. After their late dinner all went to their tent for their rest. The activities began the next day. The second day began with the trekking to the beautiful place called Lum Mawthei. The trek began at 4:00 am in the morning as the team went to witness the beautiful sunrise over the clouds. Throughout the day, the boys engaged in various outdoor activities, including hiking, team-building exercises like digging tapioca, fishing, cooking etc. The laughter and banter echoed through the campsite as friendships were strengthened and new bonds formed. The boys, temporarily detached from their academic responsibilities, found solace in the simplicity of nature. As the sun set, the group gathered around a crackling campfire for a memorable evening of music, dancing and sharing delicious campfire-cooked meals. The flickering flames provided a warm backdrop to the tales of academic challenges, hostel life anecdotes, and dreams for the future. The camping trip was not just a getaway; it was a chance for all to reconnect with each other and with nature. Often as students they get caught up in their studies and daily routines, but this experience allowed them to unwind and appreciate the beauty around them. The camping adventure also served as an opportunity for the hostel boys to develop essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience. The shared responsibilities of setting up camp, cooking meals, and navigating the outdoors fostered a sense of self-reliance and cooperation among the participants. As the dawn of the third day 3rd December 2023 approached, the boys reluctantly packed up their tents and bid farewell to the camping site and left for the trekking to Lum Sohpetbneng, armed with a renewed sense of camaraderie and unforgettable memories. The camping adventure undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the hostel boys, offering a refreshing break from their daily routine and a chance to connect with nature and each other. In the end, this camping expedition proved to be a resounding success, leaving the hostel boys eagerly anticipating future adventures and further strengthening the bonds forged during their time in the great outdoors.
