A Concert for Ukraine

Shillong 2nd April: Following days of steaming tension, the world’s worst fears came true when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and since then, the war-torn country has seen the deaths of over 10,000 innocent people. Aroha Choir Shillong, an internationally acclaimed Choir group in collaboration with Don Bosco Youth Centre, today organized a Vocal Recital at Don Bosco Youth Centre Auditorium to raise fund for Ukraine. The auditorium of Don Bosco Youth Centre was filled with the melodious voice of Venetia K Warshong, a soprano singer in the choir, who won the prestigious Lilian Dunn Lyngdoh Mawlong Award enthralled the audience with classical and Opera songs in six different European languages. She was accompanied by renowned pianist, Pauline Warjri, who is the founder of Aroha Choir and Aroha Children’s Choir and piano tutor. Venetia’s perseverance, at such a young age, was a treat for the audience that packed the auditorium.
“I feel bad for the people of Ukraine but I hope and pray that they do not worry and trust and have faith in God because this too shall pass,” said Warshong, who has been a member of the Aroha choir for nine years.

The programme was graced by the Provincial of Shillong Province, Father Paul O. Father Lyngkot, Paschal Lyngdoh, the Parish Priest of the Cathedral, Brother Solomon the Principal of St Edmund’s among others.

Speaking to the media, Venetia said that she was overwhelmed with the harsh condition of the citizens of Ukraine. “I feel bad for the people of Ukraine but I hope and pray that they do not worry and trust and have faith in God because this too shall pass,” said Warshong, who has been a member of the Aroha choir for nine years.
