THE PARENTS’ MEET AT SAVIO JUNIORATE 2024
16th March 2024, Shillong: One of the most highly anticipated days, the 16th March 2024, in Savio Juniorate community brought with its arrival the most loved and well-known presence of our dear and beloved parents, for the occasion of the parents’ meet 2024. An assembly held annually, in the community.
The auspicious day rolled into action as the boys queued in two lines to welcome the parents on their way to the main venue of the day’s function, the Ravalico hall. The event then began by the invocation of the divine guidance through prayers, a hymn to the Holy Spirit and the reading of the word of God. On this occasion the boys enthralled their parents with their stage performances. Here, the parents got to witness the fruits of their children’s hard-work and commitment through their singing, dancing, hand-dance and an instrumental performance which left them mesmerized. Rev. Fr. Mukt Tirkey, the Rector of the community, welcomed the parents and guardians and stated that the formation of the boys is a work of collaboration between the salesians and the parents. Fr. Protasius Syngki, the Administrator of the house, briefed them on the financial situation of the house. Fr. Shiningstar Dkhar, the Counsellor, explained the rules and regulations of the house. The parents were given a platform to voice out their concerns through an open discussion animated by Fr. Rector. At the end of the discussion, Fr. Rector expressed to the assembly the urgent need of the house to have a Computer Lab in order to be able to include Computer as a subject in the curriculum. The function finally came to a conclusion with a vote of thanks proposed by Fr. Thiewbor, the Vice Rector and Principal of Sacred Heart Boys’ Higher Secondary School. Everyone then proceeded to the Basketball court where a banquet prepared by the Matric boys awaited.
The meeting was truly worthwhile as it proved to be an effective way to further improve the smooth running of the house and the formation of the boys. The parents got to know the situation of the community better as well as made insightful suggestions for the better running of the house. The parents’ meet is truly a tradition worth continuing for the benefits it brings to all.
