Ten thousand faithful at the annual pilgrimage in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Mawlai
Shillong, India - June 2025 - The Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Mawlai, Shillong, on Sunday, 8 June was honoured by the nearly 10,000 faithful gathered for the Annual Pilgrimage. The spiritual event in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was presided over by Bishop Bernard Laloo, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of the Shillong Archdiocese, who encouraged the pilgrims to remain anchored in the love of Christ and to live as credible witnesses of hope and mercy in today's world. The pilgrimage brought together people not only from the Shillong Archdiocese, but also from neighbouring dioceses such as Nongstoin and Jowai, making it a true regional celebration of faith and devotion. The shrine was animated by prayers, songs and silent adoration, as pilgrims from all walks of life joined together to renew their commitment to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the source of divine grace and consolation. A special highlight of the day was Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, held in the afternoon and led by the United for Christ group. The pilgrims listened attentively to an inspiring talk on ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ given by Fr Varickasseril Jose, SDB, who invited the assembly to find strength in the Sacred Heart of Christ in the midst of life's uncertainties.
