RECTORS AND LEADERS MEET OF SHILLONG PROVINCE


16th Ocotber 2024, Shillong: A three-day meeting of Rectors, Parish Priests, and Leaders from the Shillong Province took place from October 14-16, 2024, at the Don Bosco Provincial House in Mawlai, Shillong. The gathering included 45 Salesians from various institutions, focusing on strategic planning, best practices, and enhancing collaboration. The meeting began on the evening of October 14 with a welcome from Fr. John Zosiama SDB, the Provincial. He delivered an inaugural address that cantered on "The Ministry of a Salesian Rector," referring to Article 55 of the Salesian Constitution. Fr. John emphasized the rector’s role as a guardian of Salesian identity, promoting unity and communal responsibility among confreres. Formation Process: Fr. Jeevan Lakra, the Vice-provincial, presented the current formation process and provided statistical insights on brothers and aspirants in formation across various houses. Education and Culture: Fr. Babu Stephen discussed the state of schools within the province, covering statistics on students and staff, and outlined a three-year plan for the education ministry. Missionary Animation: Fr. Saji Stephen highlighted the functioning of missionary animation in the province, supplemented by insights from Fr. Panachickal Paul on experiences in Tripura. Education to Faith: Fr. Barnes presented strategies and objectives aimed at integrating education and faith within schools and colleges. Salesian Family: Fr. A.L. Jose shared details about formation programs for Salesian Cooperators and highlighted their collaborative activities and contributions. Financial Sustainability: Fr. Genesius Wanniang, the Economer, provided important information on financial responsibilities within the province. Centralization Policy: Bro. Regy and Fr. Saji Stephen discussed policies on uniforms and notebooks, which were informative and well-received. Youth Ministry: Fr. Ritonbor addressed the objectives and dimensions of youth ministry, emphasizing its significance. Evangelization and AI Tools: Fr. Michael Makri introduced the innovative use of AI tools in evangelization, adding depth to the discussions. Eradication of Poverty: Fr. James Thyrniang presented on poverty eradication as a new mission field for the province, highlighting its importance. The meeting concluded with remarks from Fr. John Zosiama, who reiterated the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility among the Salesians in the province. The sessions not only provided valuable insights but also fostered a spirit of unity and commitment to the Salesian mission. Overall, the meeting served as a significant platform for growth, planning, and strengthening the bonds within the Shillong Province community.
