NOVICES OF ST. DOMINIC SAVIO NOVITIATE SUNNYSIDE DONNED RELIGIOUS HABITS
10th May 2025, Shillong: This day was an indelible memory for the 26 novices who donned the habits and the crucifix (for the Salesian Brothers) in St. Dominic Savio novitiate Don Bosco Sunnyside. The pulchritude of the program was the undaunted and spirited of the young novices to offer themselves to God and put on the nature of Christ (Col 3:14). The Provincial, the Vice Provincial and four brothers arrived in the community at 9:35 am. The novices and the fathers from the community welcomed them with welcome song and subsequently the novices went to the chapel in preparing themselves for the Holy Mass. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Provincial, and the concelebrants were Fr. Vice Provincial and the fathers from the community. In the homily, Fr. Provincial elucidated on the theme of the GC29; to be passionate for Christ. Moreover, he highlighted on the question in which Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Do you love me?” From this particular word, he gave a reflection where one who is aspiring to be a religious, his first priority in life is Jesus. He fostered the novices that in spite of hardships and challenges to carry the Cross daily, they must take delight in Christ for with Him nothing is impossible.
Thereafter the homily, Fr. Provincial blessed the cassock and the crosses and in line the novices went to take the habits from him and went to the sacristy to vest the cassocks. From then on, they progressed in procession to the altar carrying one candle each as a sign of carrying Christ the light.
At the conclusion of the Holy Mass, there was a photo session infront of the altar and also at the façade of the building. At 12:30 pm, they all assembled together for the fellowship meal in the refectory and after the lunch, Fr. Provincial and Vice Provincial left for Provincial House.
