INAUGURATION OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2025 AT SAVIO JUNIORATE


7th February 2025, Shillong: The new academic year commenced with a vibrant and inspiring inaugural ceremony, setting the tone for a year of learning and growth. Fr. Philip Barjo, the Rector of St. Anthony’s Hr. Sec School was invited to be the Chief Guest. The event began with the lighting of the lamps which was followed by a soulful prayer dance performed by a group of talented students, invoking blessings for the year ahead. This was followed by a melodious choir piece that filled the venue with a sense of harmony and unity. There was a lovely song sung by Malvern of class 10. There was also a short investiture ceremony for the leaders and assistant leaders empowering them with the authority and responsibility to lead their respective classes. The highlight of the event was the address by the esteemed Chief Guest, who spoke on the theme of the “Three Loves.” He emphasized the importance of love for position or status, encouraging students to aspire for excellence in their roles while maintaining humility. He then spoke about love for the institution, reminding everyone of their responsibility to contribute positively to their institution, upholding its values and traditions. Lastly, he stressed the significance of love for companions, urging students to build strong, supportive relationships that foster personal and collective growth. The Chief Guest also highlighted the necessity of nurturing one’s spiritual life. He explained that academic success and career achievements are valuable, but true fulfilment comes from inner peace and moral integrity. He encouraged students and faculty to take time for self-reflection, prayer, and meditation, as these form the foundation for a meaningful life. In addition to this, Fr. Felix, the Rector of Savio Juniorate stressed on the importance of trusting the Lord as the new year begins. Quoting the scripture “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jer 29:11), he exhorted all the students and staff to never lose sight of God’s grace and blessings. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Counsellor, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the event. As the new academic year unfolds, the inspiring words of the Chief Guest will serve as a guiding light, reminding students to strive for excellence while upholding values of love, faith, and integrity.
