HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAM HELD AT ST. JOSEPH’S LAITKOR
31st August 2024, Shillong: On Saturday the 31st of August 2024, a health awareness program for girls' students from classes VI to IX was conducted by Dr. (Mrs) Mercy Pala, the Medical Officer at Mairang Civil Hospital at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Laitkor. The program which was started at 9:30am and concluded at 12:00Nn was an initiative of teacher Miss Merilda Kharbihkhiew who wanted that the girls’ student at the school should be aware of various ‘Female Health’ issues especially on ‘Period of Adolescenes, PCOS, PCOD and other female health related issues. Talking to reporters Miss Kharbihkhiew said: ‘Health of a mother is the health of the family; therefore, this is the right time to create an awareness among the girls on what and how to prevent themselves from being affected by various health issues in the future through practicing healthy habits. Further she said: ‘This area is a matter of great concern because if not given information at the proper time, it could lead to misinformation, and some might get threatening health issues in their later years’.
The Headmaster, Rev. Father Sylvester Synrem sdb, also said that the students at his school responded positively. Few students even said that the program was an opener to them since they were not told or taught in their earlier days. Through this program now they are more informed and guided. A sense of joy and happiness radiated in the face of the students who took part in the program after the program ended.
