CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM FOR BIDS AND RILANG CHILDREN’S HOME STAFF IN NONGTHYMMAI, SHILLONG
Shillong, January 17, 2025: A one-day capacity-building program was successfully held for the staff of Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS) and Rilang Children’s Home in Shillong. This initiative aimed to enhance professional skills, foster teamwork, and deepen the understanding of the organization’s mission and values. The program saw participation from 50 staff members from various departments and projects of BIDS, alongside the dedicated team at Rilang Children’s Home.
The morning session was conducted by Rev. Dr. Bro. Albert Longley Dkhar SDB, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Smit. His engaging presentation covered vital themes such as "A Walk in Their Shoes," which emphasized the importance of empathy in both professional and social work environments. He also explored "Outreach and Social Empowerment in Don Bosco’s Way," and "Anthropology Pedagogy," urging participants to reflect on their contributions to social change and their role in empowering communities through the Don Bosco approach.
In the afternoon, Mr. Terence Sawian, a motivator, edupreneur, and trainer, took the reins for the session on BIDS’ vision, mission, and actions. Known for his dynamic and energetic style, Mr. Sawian engaged the participants through games and interactive activities. His lively session helped reinforce the alignment of personal and organizational goals, motivating the staff to actively contribute to BIDS’ mission.
The day concluded with a vote of thanks and a prayer led by Miss Andreana, counsellor at Rilang Children’s Home. The event proved to be a great success, fostering a sense of unity, personal development, and renewed commitment among the staff to the mission of BIDS.
This training program marks an important step in building a stronger, more collaborative team at BIDS, equipping the staff to serve their communities with greater effectiveness and dedication.
