Vendrame Institute inaugurates a unique Programme


Shillong, March 18: On 18th March, the Vendrame Institute located at Mawpdang in the suburb of Shillong, inaugurated a novel programme on culture literacy for school and college students. The programme which is named “Tip ïa la ka Kolshor” is intended for the Khasi youth in order to familiarize them with the basics of Khasi culture and tradition and to inculcate in them love and respect for their own culture as well as respect the others.

    The function which started at 9.30 am got over at 10.30 am. The chief guest for the occasion was Shri Pynïaid Sing Syiem, local MLA of Mawryngkneng and the other dignitaries consisted of Rev. Fr. John Zosiama, Vice Provincial of the Salesian Shillong Province, Shri Amos Duia, Sordar of Mawpdang and Rev. Fr. Festus Shadap, Assistant Pastor of Pynthor-umkhrah Parish. The participants for the one-day programme were students of St. Francis Assisi HS School and Don Bosco Secondary School of Mawkasiang and the Don Bosco Secondary School of Mawpdang. The chief guest in his message to the assembly, lauded the unique venture of the Institute under the direction of Fr. Barnes Mawrie, and encouraged the students to take keen interest in learning about one’s culture, to love and preserve one’s own customs and traditions. He promised that he would take utmost interest in promoting such an important and valuable initiative. The programme “Tip ïa la ka Kolshor” is intended to be a year-long one-day course for different groups of students of Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills.
