National Science Day 2024 Observed at Savio Juniorate
28th February 2024, Shillong: Every year on the 28th February India celebrates national science day in remembrance of the discovery of Raman Effect by the Indian Physicist Sir C. V. Raman. The community of Savio Juniorate, a formation school of the Salesian congregration,Shillong along with the whole country observed this day through a Science Exhibition.
The science exhibition began with a short Inauguration programme with Shri Evanmi Lyngdoh, MCS, Assistant Commissioner of West khasi Hills, as the Chief Guest. There were five invited schools who came to witness the science exhibition, viz., sacred Heart Girls’ Higher secondary school, Sacred Heart Boys’ higher secondary school, St. Joseph Higher secondary School Pynthorumkhrah, Bellefonte Community College, and Stephen Memorial School. The chief guest was felicitated by Fr. Mukt, the Rector of Savio Juniorate, who also gave a welcome speech. The Chief Guest gave a motivational speech and told the students to be curious and to find out why things occur and to be updated in every aspect of our life.
The science exhibition included 20 models on various topics of Chemistry, Physics and Biology, prepared by the students of class IX and X , under the mentorship of Miss Batlarity, based on the National Science day 2024 theme ‘Indigenous technologies for Viksit Bharat’.
This National Science day was an investment for the mind, a day where many aspects of science were brought to our attention- all in just one day- while it may have taken weeks to complete in the classroom. Therefore, commemorating National science day was a great learning experience.
