Don Bosco Technical School Shillong Celebrated its 100 years of Existence
DBTS, Shillong 11th November 2023: The centenary celebration of Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS) marked a historic milestone in the institution's journey, showcasing a rich legacy of Technical education, character building, and community service. The events, held on 9th,10th, and 11th November 2023 brought together past-pupils, current students, faculty, and well-wishers to commemorate a hundred years of excellence in Technical education and holistic development.
The celebration kicked off with a grand inaugural ceremony on 9th November 2023 with the EXPO (exhibition and showcase of the various products prepared by the trainees from various department like wood work, general mechanics, bakery, fast food, cake specialized, DTP etc), attended by dignitaries, past-pupils, and members of the Don Bosco community. The chief Guest of the day was Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Cabinet Minister, Govt of Meghalaya. The event featured speeches, Songs and dance reflecting on the school's achievements, its impact on students' lives, and the vision for the future. The EXPO 2023 went on for three days in which many people came and witness the EXPO.
One of the key features of the celebration was the reunion of DBTS Past-Pupils from various batches. This provided an opportunity for former students to reconnect, share experiences, and reminisce about their time at the school. The diverse achievements of the past- pupils in different fields were also highlighted.
The celebration featured educational exhibition that showcase the skills and talents of the trainee’s products from the different departments of wood work, general mechanics, fast food, bakery, cake specialized, DTP etc of DBTS. The exhibits showcased the school's commitment to Technical excellence, technological advancements, and its contributions to society through various programs.
The Grand Finale celebration was held on the 11th of November with the Holy Mass celebrated by Most. Rev Victor Lyngdoh Archbishop of Shillong and was concelebrated by other bishops and priests to thank God for the hundred years of blessings on the institution. The mass served as a spiritual anchor, reflecting on the values instilled in students over the years. After the Holy Mass, a series of cultural events and performances showcased the artistic talents of the current students. This included dance performances, musical presentations, songs, speeches that depicted the school's journey and values. The chief guest of the evening program was the Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio of India & Nepal and the guest of Honor Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Cabinet Minister, Govt of Meghalaya. The MP of Shillong Vincent Pala was also present for the program and the other bishops, government officials, priests, sisters, brothers, teachers and students.
The centenary celebration of DBTS was a momentous occasion that brought together generations of students, faculty, and supporters to celebrate a century of Technical educational excellence. The event not only looked back at the Technical school's rich history, but also set the stage for the continued pursuit of Technical and moral excellence in the years to come. As DBTS moves forward, it remains committed to the principles of its founder, St. John Bosco, and the holistic development of its students.
