St. Xavier's Hr. Sec. School Pathaliaghat 13th-18th 2023: A two-weeks long Don Bosco Football Tournament for under 19 was organised by St. Xavier's Hr. Sec. School,Pathaliaghat from 3rd to 18th October 2023. A total of 46 teams from all over Tripura took part in it. The tournament kicked off on 3rd October with a small inaugural ceremony held in the school mini stadium in which Mr. Nandhu Debbarma, the Village Council Chairman, was the Chief Guest. While addressing the audience, he highlighted the contribution of the School towards the upliftment and development of the people of the locality and thanked the school for organising such a mega event that is the Don Bosco Football tournament for the youth of today. Fr. Blasius Kujur, the Rector welcomed all the teams and wished them best of luck. Each day, 5 matches were played on a knock out basis. The tournament fixture has been made such way to have the matches as per the convenience of the players and organisers. The first round of matches were completed in 5 days and 23 teams got eliminated from the tournament. With the completion of second and third round of matches, the organisers were able to short list the teams for the Quarter and semi final matches. The Semi final was conducted on 16th October in which both Umakanta Academy FC and Gamaria FC entered into the final of Don BOSCO Football Tournament. The Final match cum closing ceremony of the tournament was held on 18th October at 2:00 pm in the Don Bosco Mini stadium of St. Xavier's School Pathaliaghat. The final match between Umakanta Academy FC and Gamaria FC began with grand welcome to Chief Guest and to all other dignitaries to the dais and the players to the ground. In the final match, no team could score any goal within the stipulated duration of the game. Finally,they entered into the penalty shot in which Gamaria FC emerged as the CHAMPIONS of Don Bosco Football Tournament while Umakanta Academy FC lifted the Runners Up Trophy. The Chief Guest and other guests gave away the medals for the Champions, Runners up, best player trophy, best Goal Keeper, best scorerer and Man of the match trophy. The champions were awarded with Trophy, Medals and a cash Prize of Rs. 25000 while the Runners up carried away Rs. 15000 as cash prize and trophy with medals. The referees of the Tournament were also felicitated and appreciated for their selfless service and they were presented with mementos and a citation each. The school placed on record the hard work put in by the school staff in organising this tournament under the leadership of Fr. Babu Stephen, the Principal. It was indeed a very grand and a successful football tournament organised by St. Xavier's School for the first time with 46 teams from all over Tripura. The support and cooperation of the local people for this tournament was praise worthy. Thanks to all those who sponsored various things for the tournament. Long Live Don Bosco.
