The retreat was led by Father Daniel Poovannathil and his team from the Mount Carmel Retreat Centre, Trivandrum. The sessions centered on Christian identity, repentance, healing, and the action of the Holy Spirit in daily life. A special highlight was the testimony of Mohini alias Christina, a popular 1990s cine actress, who shared her journey of faith and conversion to Catholicism.
On the opening day, Father Daniel spoke about living as children of God. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Father Devasia Vazhayil, SDB, and the evening concluded with Eucharistic adoration. The second day focused on repentance and the Sacrament of Confession. Father Daniel emphasized the transforming grace of reconciliation, followed by confessions administered by more than 80 priests for nearly 3,000 young people. The day ended with the Holy Mass celebrated by His Grace Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, Archbishop of Shillong, who also released a new book, Kumno Lada…, a Khasi translation by Sir Gregorius Kharumnuid of Father Joby’s work If Only… Imagining the Gospels through AI.
The third and final day reflected on the Holy Spirit and the call to live daily in God’s grace. Father Daniel celebrated the concluding Mass, which focused on inner healing of memories and wounds. The retreat closed with an anointing service during Eucharistic adoration, as priests prayed over each participant.
Organizers expressed gratitude to God for the success of the retreat and to Father Daniel and his team for animating the sessions that drew thousands of young people closer to Christ. The joy and devotion visible throughout the gathering testified to the vibrant faith of the youth of Shillong.
