ST. ANTHONY’S COLLEGE OBSERVES WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY WITH MESSAGE OF HOPE AND SOLIDARITY

Shillong, 10th September — World Suicide Prevention Day, observed globally on September 10th, serves as a vital reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, compassion, and support. Established to keep public attention focused on suicide prevention, this day underscores the collective responsibility to foster environments where those struggling can feel seen, heard, and valued.

This year, the newly established Department of Psychology at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, marked the occasion by organizing a heartfelt gathering aimed at spreading a message of hope and solidarity. Faculty members and students came together in a spirit of empathy and inclusion, reaching out to peers with the simple yet powerful message: ‘you are not alone.’

The event encouraged open dialogue around mental health, emphasizing that talking about one's struggles is a vital first step toward healing. By creating spaces for honest conversation, the department hopes to build a climate of understanding and support where everyone feels safe to express their feelings.

“At the core of this initiative is the belief that every life is a precious gift from God,” said a faculty spokesperson. “Through listening and genuine connection, we can help one another feel less isolated and more empowered.”

St. Anthony’s College continues to promote mental well-being as a fundamental part of holistic education, and the Psychology Department’s efforts stand as a beacon of hope in the community. As this year’s observance reminds us: reaching out can save lives — and every small act of care counts.
