Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh, an alumnus of the College’s English Department (Class of 1993), graced the occasion as chief guest. Returning to his alma mater, Lyngdoh recalled his student years with nostalgia and urged graduates to embody humility, empathy, and intellectual curiosity in their personal and professional lives. Quoting poet W.B. Yeats, he remarked, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire,” underlining the need for listening, kindness, and grounded leadership in today’s complex world.
A highlight of the ceremony was the launch of the “Goodness Award – Where Values Meet Leadership”, instituted by the Department of Value Education. The inaugural award was presented to Elizabeth Hazel Lyndem, Student Coordinator of the College, in recognition of her integrity, grace, and empathetic leadership. Lyndem was commended for fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and responsibility, embodying the College’s mission of nurturing compassionate leaders rooted in the Don Bosco vision of education as service.
The academic achievements of students across 23 departments were celebrated, with Commerce, Economics, Education, Mass Media, Fishery Science, Chemistry, Geology, and Statistics securing top ranks in the NEHU examinations. Distinguished attendees included Dr. Sarah Kharbuli, Head of Fishery Sciences, and Dr. Aman War, Headman of Lower Lachumiere.
The College also honoured four faculty members who recently completed their doctoral studies and recognised three faculty members who have served the institution for 25 years, highlighting the enduring commitment of its teaching community to excellence and service.
Among the individual honours, the Archbishop Hubert D’Rosario Award—presented to the student with the highest marks in NEHU examinations—was awarded to Somiyur Shaiza of the Geology Department, who secured 94.5 per cent. Meanwhile, Md. Rezaul Islam of Political Science was named Valedictorian, recognised for his academic distinction, leadership qualities, and contributions to community service.
The Convocation Ceremony thus reflected St. Anthony’s College’s dual emphasis on academic excellence and value-based education, celebrating achievements while inspiring students to pursue knowledge with purpose and compassion.
