DON BOSCO COLLEGE TACKLES STIGMA WITH MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME

10th September 2025, Byndihati: In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Mental Wellness Committee of Don Bosco College, Byndihati, successfully organized a meaningful and insightful programme on men’s mental health on 10th September 2025. Coordinated by Counsellor Ms. Lavinia Suja, the event was designed to foster awareness and create a safe space for open conversations on mental wellness.

The session was led by resource person Mr. Garmylo Pdang, who addressed the unique mental health challenges men face. Through an engaging and interactive discussion, he highlighted the stigma, stereotypes, and societal pressures that often prevent men from seeking help. The programme encouraged participants to explore healthier ways of coping with stress, anxiety, and emotional struggles, emphasizing the importance of breaking the silence. The college’s male students actively participated, sharing their thoughts and experiences and contributing to a supportive and empathetic environment. The discussion shed light on how societal expectations of masculinity can lead to internalized stress, underscoring the critical need for awareness, acceptance, and dialogue to promote overall well-being.

By combining education with open conversation, the event aimed to destigmatize mental health struggles and empower men to prioritize their psychological well-being. It also served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to build a compassionate community where seeking help is viewed as a sign of strength rather than a weakness.
