DB COLLEGE BYNDIHATI HOSTS WORKSHOP ON COMBATING GENDER-BASED CRIME


10th September 2025, Byndihati: The Women Cell of Don Bosco College Byndihati, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), successfully organized an awareness programme today 10th September 2025, for female students and teachers on the critical issue of ‘Crime against women’. The event aimed to educate and empower attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to combat various forms of gender-based violence.

    The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Jimmy Pdang, Assistant Public Prosecutor, East Jaintia Hills District, who served as the programme’s resource person. Mr. Pdang’s presentation focused on a range of pertinent topics, including sexual assault, different forms of harassment, and domestic violence. He provided a comprehensive overview of the legal framework and available resources for victims, emphasizing the importance of reporting such crimes and seeking help. The session was highly informative, prompting an active question-and-answer segment with the audience.

    Following the main address, Mrs. Batbitlang Bareh, the esteemed Brand Ambassador of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, shared her inspiring life experiences. She encouraged the students to be resilient and to never give up on their dreams, reminding them that their courage and determination are their strongest assets in the face of adversity. Her personal anecdotes resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the message of empowerment and self-reliance.

    The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the collaborative effort between the college's Women Cell and the DHEW. The event was widely praised for its timeliness and its valuable contribution to fostering a safer and more informed community within the college.
