|Graduation Ceremony at St. Anthony`s College, Shillong by Fr. Joby Joseph SDB|
|The programme began with the solemn procession of the rank holders wearing black formals and the college sash led by the dignitaries to the College Auditorium. The chief guest for the event was Rev. Fr. George Maliekal sdb, the Provincial and President of the Governing Body of the College. Prof. Herbran Syiem, of the Dept. of Political Science was the Guest of Honour for the day. The Packed auditorium gave a standing ovation as the procession entered. |
The College Anthem was sung by the gathering may be for a last time officially for many of the graduates. Fr. Joby Joseph, the Rector of the college led the gathering into a moment of prayer. Every graduate, holding a lit candle prayed to the song being played... Carry Your Candle... Run to the Darkness. This was indeed a moment of grace with lit candles lighting up the dark auditorium.
In the address, that followed Rev. Br. Albert L Dkhar, the Principal welcomed the gathering and wished the graduates blessings and success in the years ahead. In his exhortation to the students Prof. H. Syiem wished them to remain true to the values imbibed while at Anthony`s. The keynote address of the day was delivered by Rev. Fr. George Maliekal sdb. In his address, he called on the graduates to aim nothing less than excellence in their life ahead. His advice to them was that to achieve macro level of execution, one needs to aim at micro level of planning.
On behalf of the students, Sonia Bhattacharyya summed up the feelings of gratitude and appreciation to the College. She thanked the management, faculty, support staff and everyone who made the past three years at Anthony`s an experience of a family. She said that the three years spent were not only years of learning facts and figures, but were also a time of forming values of the heart and building lasting friendships.
Of the 148 rank holders, 120 were felicitated in person during the event. Departments that achieved cent percentage of passing were also acknowledged. Performance by the graduates of the music department and some first year students brought variety to the event. The compere, Prof. Amanda Tongper conducted the event to perfection. After the formal vote of thanks by Prof. David Marbaniang, the co-ordinator of the event, all stood still for the singing of the National Anthem.
After the event at the auditorium, students met with the faculty in their respective departments. The Faculty of the evening BA Course, supported by the college alumni, met the first passing out batch in the Value Education department in the presence of the President of the Alumni, Brig. William Sturgon.
The management, faculty and the support staff of the college wished every graduate of the 2017 batch all blessings and success in their career ahead. Ever more, Better Ever.
