`Bosco Olympics` 2016 at Don Bosco School, Silchar  by Father Nelson Joseph SDB
    Shillong, Dec. 8. 2016 The vast expanse of the Assam Rifles Grounds in Silchar turned into the spectacular venue of the `Bosco Olympics` - a five day sporting extravaganza, held from 29th November to 3rd December, for the sport-loving students of city`s Don Bosco School.
    Mr. Aminul Haque Laskar, Member of Legislative Assembly from Sonai constituency was the Chief Guest at the solemn inaugural ceremony. The other distinguished invitees that Mr. Laskar shared dais with were Lt. Col. Abdul Baasit Hangal, Lt. Col. Amit Khanna, Asst. Commandant Mr. Praveen, and Mr. Babul Hore, the General Secretary, District Sports Association, Silchar.

    The opening ceremony of Bosco Olympics which commenced with the hoisting of the Olympics flag, the School flag and the 4 House flags followed by the ceremonial march past, colourful drill display, lighting Olympics flame, oath taking, speeches by the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour. Father Nelson Joseph, the Principal addressed the words of welcome.

    A host of thrilling events marked the much-awaited mega event of the year. Bosco Olympics 2016 included three new events, namely, swimming, skating and archery. Other exciting games included strength lifting, triathlon, relay race, marathon, kho-kho, kabaddi, football, cricket, badminton, basket ball, high jump, long jump, shot put etc. along with an array of track events. The Bosconians participated in all the events with a true spirit of sportsmanship. Teachers also exhibited their sporting talent in strength lifting, throw ball and football.

    The 5-day long event came to an end on 3rd December 2016. Br. Reggie Joseph, the Manager of Don Bosco H. S. School, Silchar shared his experience of the `Olympics` at the closing ceremony. A boy and a girl each from both Junior and Senior sections were declared Bosco Olympics champions. Trophies were also given away to the four houses. Tagore house was declared the overall champion of Bosco Olympics, and the runners up, Rafi, Kalpana and Jimmy Houses. After vote of thanks by Sr. Mary the flags of Bosco Olympics, School and four Houses were lowered and the Principal officially closed the event. The management, staff and students expressed their gratitude to Assam Rifles for the excellent arrangements made available for Bosco Olympics.
