The programme began with the Holy Mass, presided over by Fr. Michael Makri, SDB, Director of the Youth Centre and Adviser of the youth organization. In his homily, he urged the youth to look to Jesus on the Cross to receive new life from the struggles of daily living. He also emphasized the importance of carrying one’s own crosses as a path to sanctification in Christian youth life, drawing inspiration from the example of St. Carlo Acutis.
Following the Mass, the first session commenced with Shri Ronney Wahlang, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he praised the organizers and participants for successfully convening the meet. He encouraged the youth to remain steadfast in their faith, work diligently for the betterment of their communities, and aspire to become leaders of the nation in their chosen fields. Awards were also given to meritorious students who secured 80% and above in their various examinations.
The second session featured action songs and the eagerly awaited Mr. and Miss Freshers competition. Dr. Mary Anne Jyrwa served as Chief Guest, while Mr. Rafeal Syngkli was Guest of Honour. Dr. Jyrwa lauded the youth for their energy, creativity, and spirit of service. She offered words of encouragement, expressing confidence that the youth of Ri Bhoi would emerge as catalysts for positive change and contribute to the district’s growth and development in diverse fields.
The presence of Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, and parishioners from across Ri Bhoi highlighted the strong bond between the Church and its young members. Their participation underscored a message of collective support, showing that faith communities continue to stand behind their youth with confidence and pride.
In closing, the organizers extended heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of the day. They noted that gatherings such as the Freshers’ Meet play an essential role in building unity, nurturing faith, and fostering the talents of young people.
