SHILLONG PROVINCE KICKS OFF THE FIRST MINI BOSCOREE AT ST. XAVIER’S SCHOOL PATHALIAGHAT
15th December 2024, Pathaliaghat: The First Mini Boscoree 2024 of the Salesian Province of Shillong, organized by the Education Commission under the leadership of Fr. Babu Stephen SDB, commenced with grandeur and enthusiasm at St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Pathaliaghat, from December 15th to 18th, 2024. This milestone event was a remarkable effort to foster unity, collaboration, and the Salesian spirit among institutions across the region.
The event officially began on December 16th, 2024, with a solemn inaugural Mass followed by an impressive opening ceremony. The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Most Rev. Lumen Monteiro C.S.C. Bishop of Agartala, and attended by a host of dignitaries, including Fathers, Sisters, teachers, students, and special invitees. The Chief Guest was accorded a warm and ceremonial welcome at 9:00 AM, accompanied by the Colour Party and the school band. The highlights of the ceremony included the hoisting of the Mini Boscoree flag by Bishop Monteiro and his inspection of the parade. This was followed by a grand inter-school march-past involving contingents from 17 schools representing Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Silchar. The disciplined and vibrant display set the tone for the Mini Boscoree, showcasing the participants’ unity and enthusiasm.
Sr. Rihun Sten FMA led a heartfelt prayer session, invoking blessings for the event and the well-being of all participants. Fr. Babu Stephen SDB extended a warm and heartfelt welcome on behalf of the Salesian Province of Shillong, emphasizing the values of camaraderie and dedication. Fr. K.K. Joseph SDB also addressed the gathering with a motivational message. The Chief Guest, Bishop Lumen Monteiro, delivered a thought-provoking speech, inspiring participants to embrace the core scouting values of teamwork, discipline, and service. His words resonated deeply, setting an inspiring tone for the days ahead.
The Mini Boscoree witnessed an overwhelming response, with 475 Scouts and Guides, 120 teachers, and 25 religious personnel actively participating. Mr. Alphonse Raphael Lazar served as the Camp Chief, supported by Fr. Suman Kumar Kiro SDB as the Assistant Camp Chief. Their leadership was instrumental in ensuring the smooth organization of the event. The band girls of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School captivated the audience with a vibrant and synchronized dance performance, adding color and energy to the occasion. Their enthusiasm and skill left a lasting impression on all attendees. The meticulous organization of the event, coupled with the dynamic participation of students and staff, reflected the collective commitment to the Salesian mission. The gathering fostered a spirit of unity and mutual respect among participants from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, embodying the core values of the Salesian tradition.
